New Selections for Children's Summer Reading

The author, Kelia Slaughter, was born in New York City. She moved to the South with her family in 2003. She graduated from Long Island University with a BS in Elementary Education and obtained a Master’s Degree from Grand Canyon University in Special Education. She also received an ED. S. in Curriculum Instruction from Piedmont College. In her spare time, she enjoys reading the Bible and spending time with her family.

Hope tells the story of the funny bunny that is the title character. Hope does what bunnies do to the delight of his child companion. The book offers a balance between age-appropriate vocabulary, expressiveness, and rhythm as the story of Hope unfolds through words and pictures. Every child who enjoys animals will fall in love with Hope.

The author, Ami Jasmine (also known as Dr. Ami), is a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), a Missionary, Humanitarian and Philanthropist. Dr. Ami is leading her own practice since 2017 in the North-West Arkansas area. Her interest in children’s books is directly related to her having her own children, as well as her humanitarian work in the Republic of Togo, her birthplace. Along with her husband as the co-founder, she is constructing an orphanage that will focus on education and career development of young people. Her first children’s book, My Very First Bunny, will not be her last published effort.

Dr. Ami is a mother of two with a story of her own. Her experiences have taught her the value of family, community, and giving back. Her dental practice is named Faith Family Dental. The name of the pet in her first children’s book is Hope. These virtues guide her continued professional work and inspire her personal impact.

This book is the first of several books that will be published by Dr. Ami.
